Rot und Blau
a feature film with Sven-Åke Johansson

Grenaphon exercises

MM schäumend – Konzert für 15 Handfeuerlöscher
(MM foaming – Concert for 15 handheld fire extinguishers)
a film by Teresa Iten with Sven-Åke Johansson, 5:21 min
In 2003 Sven-Åke Johansson conducted »MM schäumend« for the first time in the garden at the Berlin Akademie der Künste, with musicians from the Berlin Echtzeitmusik scene. Two device types were utilized: water and foam fire extinguishers. The piece’s duration is dependent on the devices’ filling capacities. This video documents the first performance in a closed space, which took place in Berlin in 2010.

Grenaphon Exercises
a film by Teresa Iten with Sven-Åke Johansson, 6:43 min
In 2006 Sven-Åke Johansson was invited to develop a composition for the opening of the exhibition “Berlin über und unter der Erde” Alfred Grenander, die U-Bahn und die Kultur der Metropole (“Berlin Over and Under the Ground”: Alfred Grenander, the U-Bahn and Metropolitan Culture at the Berlin Museum of Technology, curated by the Swedish Embassy’s cultural attaché at the time, Aris Fioretos. The result was Neue Kochstrasse (for Grenaphone, timpani and loudhailer). Johansson built a xylophone of sorts which he named the ‘Grenaphone’ and which comprised diversely shaped and sized, pastel coloured original tiles from the walls of U-Bahn stations. He additionally used two discarded enamel signs and an old loudhailer stemming from the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe’s (BVG) equipment stocks. A homage to the Swede Alfred Grenander (1863–1931), architect and builder of several Berliner U-Bahn stations, including Wittenbergplatz, Alexanderplatz, Klosterstrasse and Hermannplatz.
The ‘Grenaphone’ was once again played as part of a variation without the enamel signs at the Münzclub, Berlin, thereafter being disassembled and dismounted into its original components. It no longer exists.

Stereo für 8 (Stereo for 8)
a film by Teresa Iten with Sven-Åke Johansson, 7:11 min
Is a composition for the Maulwerker and was premiered in 2006 at Tesla, Berlin.
Forty-four words are repeatedly spoken by eight people. Through the segmentation of a word into eight fragments, they attempt to generate a kind of stereo effect. The word wanders from left to right, from right to left. A complex and difficult undertaking that must be well practiced. (Langustenbeine, Erdumkreisung, Bigband-Arrangement…)

Konzum
a film by Teresa Iten with Sven-Åke Johansson, 3:28 min
Two found objects encounter one another: a 1969 field recording of the Volkswagen factories in Wolfsburg, Germany, made with an Uher ‘Report’; and a cashier receipt from Croatia.
