Okay okay – Der moderne Tanz

Monday, 17.11., 20:30 h
in presence of the filmmakers Christoph Dreher and Heiner Mühlenbrock

D 1980, 90 min, Direction: Christoph Dreher, Heiner Mühlenbrock
(no dialogue, mostly English song lyrics)

While studying at the legendary German Film and Television Academy (dffb), Christoph Dreher and Heiner Mühlenbrock foreshadowed the future of audiovisual music with their debut “Okay okay – Der moderne Tanz”. The film is a series of vignettes of urban anomie and decay set to music by such postpunk stalwarts as Pere Ubu, PiL, Chrome, and The Residents with performance clips by Wire (at Kreuzberg’s SO36 club) and Berlin female punk band Ätztussis performing a solidarity gig at the Moabit women’s prison. A fascinating time capsule of a near-apocalyptic mood in West Berlin and divided Germany.

Exberliner presents the film in co-operation with realeyz.tv, followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Christoph Dreher and the usual complimentary wine.
